Transportation Help During Hurricane Season
By Seth Newman
As the Atlantic Hurricane season (June 1st through the end of November) continues, Hurricane Dorian is expected to disrupt the transportation industry this week as the category three storm hits the East Coast of the United States. As Dorian hits the East Coast of Florida, it’s projected path is to continue up the East Coast and hit Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia all by Saturday. At its current wind speed, Hurricane Dorian is considered a major hurricane with sustained winds speed of 120 MPH.

Each year, hurricanes affect the transportation industry with rate increases, canceled shipments, delays at shippers/receivers and extended transit times. Ally Logistics can help in the transportation of your freight during the difficult hurricane season. As an experienced 3PL, Ally offers a few services that can help guide you and your freight during crucial periods.
TECHNOLOGY: Ally can provide increased transparency with your freight and transit times. With electronic tracking available, Ally can pinpoint where your freight is at as well as provide automatic email updates when your freight is picked up and unloaded by signing up through Ally’s TMS system.
SEASONAL SHIPPING PLANS: If you or your customers deal with hurricanes each year, it can be beneficial to partner up with a 3PL during these difficult shipping periods. Ally reps can help provide detailed shipping plans with rates, services, and emergency contact information into seasonal shipping packages for you in order to provide a safe, prepared and dedicated shipping service during hurricane season.
CHANGING PORTS: Ally Logistics provides service coast-to-coast in the continental U.S. and Canada. Ports face the most diversity when hurricanes hit. If you decide to change your shipping or receiving ports, Ally has the capacity and experience to help ship your freight into or from any port in the U.S. to help avoid the paths of hurricanes.
INCREASED CAPACITY: Are there projected hurricanes on the horizon? It may be beneficial to increase your product fulfillment before the hurricane hits. Ally has a large capacity of carriers in all areas of the country and can help provide an increase in your shipping or production in order to help get out crucial shipments before the hurricanes hit. If your production facilities are unable to operate or are shut down during the hurricane, Ally can also help move your freight with any secondary shipping or receiving locations that you may have.
DROP TRAILER PROTECTION: Ally has many dedicated carriers that are able to provide drop trailers. With hurricanes coming, it may be beneficial to get ahead of production and use drop trailers to help wait out the hurricane. Storing your freight in drop trailers inside a protected yard out of harm’s way is another option that Ally can provide.
ADDITIONAL INSURANCE: Worried about damaged or missing freight during hurricane season? Ally can provide additional insurance on single-shipments or projects to help ensure that your freight is properly protected from the disaster of hurricanes.
