Growing With Your Shipping Needs
By Seth Newman
As the weather turns cold and holiday cheer starts to spread, consumers turn to an annual and cherished tradition for some families in America. The task of picking out the perfect Christmas tree can make or break your family room decor, but have you ever thought about where your Christmas tree comes from?
Oregon and North Carolina are the two largest producers of Christmas trees in America. With just six counties in the two states accounting for 51 percent of the 16 million trees harvested each season according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Overall, North Carolina and Oregon trees constituted around 79 percent of each year’s harvest.
Ashe County in North Carolina that borders both Tennessee and Virginia is America’s largest Christmas tree provider with over 2 million trees harvested each holiday season.
According to the most recent USDA data, Christmas tree farms covered almost 300,000 acres of land in America. To give you an idea of the size, that’s 468 square miles or the size of Los Angeles. The top four counties in the U.S. that lead in Christmas tree production are Clackamas County, Oregon; Ashe County, North Carolina; Marion County, Oregon; and Missaukee County, Michigan. The two most popular Christmas trees that are produced are the Noble fir based out of Oregon and the Fraser fir based in North Carolina.
